Proefnotitie
De wijn fonkelt met een uitnodigende lichtgele kleur in het glas, met hier en daar groenachtige en zilveren reflecties. Het bouquet is typisch riesling, met aroma's van citrusvruchten, appels en perziken, wat bloesem en kruiden. In de mond is de ‘Probstey’ sappig en pakkend, met veel geel fruit, plantaardig-kruidige en florale toetsen, een levendig zuurtje, een uitgesproken, subtiel zilte mineraliteit en een evenwichtige afdronk met een zachte grip en een delicate romigheid. Deze riesling van een individuele wijngaard is geweldig gemaakt – in een blindproeverij zal hij nauwelijks te onderscheiden zijn van een Grosses Gewächs.

The 2022 Riesling Saulheimer Probstey was the first of the three single-site wines harvested from a fully south-facing and well-drained but exposed vineyard on sandy loam on top of limestone, the warmest site in Saulheim. It was fermented in Stück. The nose opens immediately with mandarin and riper citrus with tangerine spice. The body is rounder and generous but streamlined by a lemony brightness, edged with tempering phenolics that add texture to the mouth-watering, very dry finish. (Bone-dry)

From a low, rather flat, south-facing slope on clay marl, limestone and yellow sand and vinified in traditional oak casks, the 2022 Saulheimer Probstey Riesling is discreet but clear, intense and fine on the elegant and aromatic nose that is quite saline and pure, rocky and finely lemony. Elegant, pure and savory on the palate, this is a vibrantly fresh, savory and saline Riesling with a long, grippy and stimulating bitter finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in August 2023.

De wijn
De topwijngaard Probstey heeft een zuidelijke oriëntatie en een helling tot 25 procent. De bodem bestaat uit kleimergel, kalksteen en zand. Na een zeer late, selectieve oogst begin oktober 2022 werden de druiven licht gekneusd in de kelder en bleven ze vier uur op de schillen rusten om zo diepere en complexere aroma’s te verkrijgen. De most werd gefermenteerd in eikenhouten vaten met de natuurlijke gisten en de jonge wijn rijpte op de droesem tot de zomer van 2023.
